Rick and I went to the Marine Corps Ball tonight, in Lincolnton, North Carolina. I had never heard of these events before, but I actually really enjoyed myself! It was held in an old schoolhouse in the country where the Marine Corps League rents a room for their regular meetings. The ball was held in the gymnasium, and a DJ for the dance was set up on the stage. While it wasn't a huge gym like those found in our schools today, it was perfect for tonight's event! The Sagebrush Grill catered the dinner, which was incredible! Prime Rib, chicken breasts (2!), or another pork or beef main dish, scalloped potatoes, corn, green beans, rolls, salad, and several different types of expensive desserts. (The $50 tickets per person were given to Rick and I by Kevin? Keith? someone who works with Rick who is the local commandant or whatever that title is, and his wife. I can't remember her name, but Rick introduced us and I enjoyed chatting briefly with her.)

She had dressed to the nines! She was wearing a formal evening gown in a light icy blue with rhinestone rings on the supporting straps, right above the bosom. Her gown was very floaty and silky, and she had a sparkly, silver sequinned wrap. She wore a blossom in her hair like a Hawaiian or tropical woman in a commercial for vacations in the islands. She has shoulder length dark hair, and she is very slender, yet curvy. Several other of the women were also dressed in formal gowns like I see in the Draper's & Damon's catalog, one lady in that type of dress with the matching elegant sequinned overshirt/jacket even was wearing the type of shoes they sell in that catalog to go with the outfits- the shoes are clear lucite with more rhinestones or other jewels or embroidery.

I could be wrong, but it looked as though several of the women had purchased outfits specifically for the ball. Rick and I left before the dancing started, we were both tired, and I was having to use my walker the whole time, so obviously, I would not be dancing. All in all, it was a lovely evening!
